Dreading the dentist because of your fear of pain? Or how about because you don’t want to spend hours in the chair? If so, sedation may be a good option for you. Sedation can put even the most fearful patient at ease during a dental appointment. Most patients who have dental work using sedation do not recall the experience, and sedation allows us to resolve most dental issues in just a few visits while you are in a deep, relaxed state.
Oral conscious sedation
Patients 16 years or older who are in good general health are candidates for oral conscious sedation. Here’s how it works:
- One hour before your dental procedure you take an oral sedative.
- A friend or family member drives you to our office.
- Dr. Alouf monitors your state of sedation and gives more sedative if necessary
- Your dental work then completed while you rest comfortably
- A friend or family member drives you home
It’s just that easy! We can use oral conscious sedation during nearly all routine dental work, periodontal therapy, placement of dental implants, placement of crowns and bridges and extractions.
IV sedation
We also offer full IV sedation administered in our office by a certified registered nurse anesthetist, who will monitor you throughout your dental treatment.
